Michael J. Fox: 'I'm not depressed'

Rex Features

Michael J. Fox has revealed that he has not succumbed to depression following his diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease.

The actor said his naturally positive personality has helped him cope with the condition, which he has battled since 1991.

Speaking to Extra on the tenth anniversary of going public with his illness, he said: "A lot of people with Parkinson's have clinical depression and it's difficult for them to deal with what they're dealing with, plus to have the added baggage of depression...

"I haven't had that issue. I've been able to stay involved in life and I think that keeps me feeling good."

The 46-year-old created the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in 2000 following his retirement from full-time acting.
