The Spice Girl, 35, revealed she worked behind the counter at a takeaway when she was a teenager.
She told Metro: "I worked in a fish and chip shop but I was so short I couldn’t see over the counter.
"I’d go home at the end of the shifts with a greasy slick on my forehead. It was a horrible, greasy nightmare. I did it for one summer when I was 16."
Halliwell is currently writing a series of children's books about a girl called Ugenia Lavender.
