Mel B praises "supportive" husband

Mel B has publicly thanked her husband Stephen Belafonte for helping to get her life back on track.

The Spice Girl's shock decision to marry movie producer Stephen caused controversy in August, with her own mother claiming that she had made a "big mistake". However, Mel has said that she remains confident that Belafonte is the right man for her.

Mel fell in love with Stephen in the aftermath of her split from actor Eddie Murphy, who is the father of her daughter Angel Iris. She also has another daughter, Phoenix, from her marriage to Jimmy Gulzar.

"[Stephen] was the one person who stuck by me throughout my pregnancy," Mel told the News of the World. "He saw me at my most vulnerable and I saw him for the supportive, giving bloke he really is.

"Stephen is brilliant with my daughters, Angel, one, and nine-year-old Phoenix. For the first time I feel like part of a family."

The singer is now believed to be "desperate" to have a child with her new husband.
