Gyllenhaal "shocked" by Ledger treatment

Maggie Gyllenhaal has said she was "shocked" by the media's treatment of Heath Ledger's death.

The actress told Empire: "It's hard to talk about how [Ledger's death] affected me personally. It's been really hard for me.

"[And] the media has shocked me with the way that they've been disrespectful in some ways."

Gyllenhaal appeared opposite Ledger in his final full film The Dark Knight, which is released in the UK in July.

The actor was found dead in his New York apartment in January after suffering an accidental overdose of prescribed medication.
