Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin have tied the knot.

The childhood sweethearts, both 22, exchanged vows in a 17th century palace on the Italian Riviera in heavy rain.

The couple were driven to the Villa Durazzo in a car with tinted windows, before being married by the local mayor in front of eight close friends and family.

Representatives from OK! magazine, which is believed to have paid £2.5 million for the wedding photos, were also present at the ceremony.

The bride wore a short, strapless white dress, while Rooney sported a beige suit with no tie.

The newlyweds were then given a police escort to a medieval abbey, where they held a Catholic service and a reception for 65 guests.

The wedding is estimated to have cost £5 million.
