The Dancing On Ice judge was a vocal critic of the ex-Atomic Kitten singer for several years before she eventually appeared on the celebrity skating contest.
Gardiner suggested that Katona entering the show would be an "all new low". Following her exit he added that Katona had only joined the programme "for the exposure".
"All I know is what I read and see on the numerous TV shows that follow her around constantly," Gardiner said of Katona to Heat.
"Am I impressed by Kerry's talent or celebrity? No, I don't think she deserves the attention thrust upon her. It's sad that her life has played out the way it has. She's famous for all the wrong reasons."
Of his spat with ex-DOI judge Karen Barber, Gardiner added: "What people need to realise is that the stuff that happened between Karen and I was something that was between Karen and I.
"Like you, I don't want to go into work and upset people, especially someone I've had an association with for six years.
"But there comes a time when people can push and push, and eventually you snap. Unfortunately I snapped on national television... put it this way, we haven't spoken a word since."
