The couple began dating after meeting on the ITV1 skating competition earlier this year. Madeley, daughter of TV duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, has spoken about the end of their relationship for the first time.
"It's very sad but it's amicable," the 23-year-old told The Mirror. "We realised we were better off as friends and I'm glad we made that realisation early.
"I don't think Sam and I moved in together too quickly. If you feel it, you go with it, and that's what we did. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but I have no regrets."
Madeley dumped her long-term boyfriend Glenn Crickmar to date the ex-EastEnders actor. However, friends claim that their relationship "lost its spark" after they finished the Dancing on Ice live tour.
"We were really happy but it just didn't work out and we're still incredibly close. We just work better as very close friends," she added. "Break-ups are always sad but there was no massive issue or argument. There was nothing dramatic.
"We just slowly came to the conclusion it wasn't working and I'm thankful that we did because now we have the opportunity to retain our friendship. It's always sad when something ends but it had just run its course."
