The comedian revealed that he would love the role, but only if Simon Cowell returned from the USA.
He told Heat: "I'd take part in The X Factor if I could have the seat next to Simon. That would be my condition. I'd like to be in the Cheryl Cole seat. He usually has the person he fancies sitting next to him."
However, he added that he would struggle to be critical of contestants. He said: "But I actually don't know if I could judge people's talent. I don't know if I've got enough talent myself. I still think I'd find it hard to say no to people.
"Simon didn't ever need to be liked whereas a performer generally wants the approval of the public, especially if you're a comedian. So if you have to say no and start getting booed by audiences, it can be tricky. But I don't know, maybe one day I'll do one."
Matt Lucas recently denied rumours that he and comic partner Walliams had parted ways.
