Updated: Ricky Whittle released on police bail

Ricky Whittle has been released on police bail pending further investigation.

The Hollyoaks actor and current Strictly Come Dancing favourite was arrested following an incident in Liverpool City Centre in the early hours of this morning.

Merseyside police previously announced that they had arrested a 29-year-old man from Billinge, Lancashire on suspicion of assault.

The authorities have now confirmed that following questioning in custody, the man has been released on police bail.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police this afternoon told DS: "The man has been released on police bail, pending further investigation."

A spokesperson for Hollyoaks production house Lime Pictures said: "Ricky Whittle has been released and no charges have yet been brought against him. He is very disappointed with the harassment he has suffered from the paparazzi and has instructed lawyers to take the appropriate steps in relation to the photographer."
