The 42-year-old, who appeared on the show as Stavros Flatley with his son Lagi, told The Sun that Lagi Contractors Ltd had failed after telling sub-contractors that they could not be paid at a "heated" meeting.
"We are sorry that some of our people are suffering. They are owed money - but we have not yet received the money we are owed by other people to pay them," Demetriou said. We are a hard working family and sadly my brother's side of the business has run into financial difficulties because he hasn't been paid for several large contracts he undertook.
"Regrettably in our trade this sort of thing is happening all the time to small companies like us."
He added: "We have fought really hard for the funds that were owed so we could look after our team who have been loyal to us over the last 12 years, but sadly we have failed. Many other people are sadly experiencing the same fate."
Gavin McGeown, who is owed £2,500 by the firm, said: "Demetrios told us that the company had gone into administration and couldn't afford to pay us. We have been left thousands of pounds out of pocket. There were about 40 of us. It did get a bit heated, people were shouting."
The new series of Britain's Got Talent begins on Saturday, April 16 on ITV1.
