Britain's Got Talent winners Spelbound are in talks to star in the opening ceremony at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 13-strong gymnastic troupe, who won the show's fourth series in 2010, is close to securing a spot at the £27million display on July 27, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Spelbound's presence at the ceremony will apparently be decided after they perform in front of 20,000 people at a test event on April 1.

Alex Uttley, who at 25 is the oldest member of the gang, said: "Being part of the Olympics has always been one of our dreams and it is very close to coming true."

Fellow Britain's Got Talent winner Ashley Banjo of Diversity has also been linked to an appearance at the London 2012 opening, as have X Factor winners Little Mix, Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John and Muse.

Danny Boyle is artistic director for the opening ceremony, while Underworld were confirmed in December to be providing music for the three-hour extravaganza.

The event was last month announced as having an 'Isles of Wonder' theme.
