In an interview with Prestige magazine, Rumer revealed that father Bruce and mother Demi Moore provided helpful guidance as her interest in the profession grew.
"I always wanted to do it from when I was super little, so it was more about just waiting for my parents to say it was OK," she said.
The actress added: "They were totally fine; they've always been completely supportive of it. They just wanted me to finish high school, which I totally appreciate now."
Rumer made her big screen debut in 1995's Now And Then, which co-starred her mother and Rosie O'Donnell.
The 22-year-old star most recently appeared on 90210 in the recurring role of recovering alcoholic Gia.
