The former Beverly Hills, 90210 actress said she loves being an icon for the homosexual community.
She plays a bride-to-be whose fiancé's gay ex-lover tries to stop their wedding in new romantic comedy Kiss the Bride.
She told Reuters: "[The gay theme] was probably one of the top things that made me want to do the movie. I'm a huge fan of gays. They love me; I love them.
"They consider me kind of a gay icon, which they've labelled me as."
Spelling recently admitted that she would love to reprise her role as Donna Martin in the new Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff.
