The Emmerdale legend, who only moved Down Under last October, revealed that she is returning to support her cancer-stricken mother.
She wrote to fans on Twitter: 'It was a complete shock to me and my family... I felt so torn as I was just about to start a new adventure with Harry and the kids.
"Everything that could go wrong with my mum's treatment did... she had a real battle and is still fighting.
"So we decided as a family that we would stay in the UK so I can take care of my mum... it's not been an easy decision, especially for Harry."
The 36-year-old further divulged that her mother is suffering from a "rare form" of the disease, with which she was diagnosed in January.
She also paid tribute to fans of Harry Kewell's football team Melbourne Victory, who she said displayed "amazing support".
The actress, who has three children, married Kewell in 2002 after having been in a relationship for two years.
Murphy's Emmerdale character Tricia Dingle was memorably killed off in a storm in 2004.
