'Emmerdale' actress dumps boyfriend

Emmerdale star Sammy Winward has dumped boyfriend Dave Mercer.

The actress, who plays Katie Sugden on the ITV soap, decided to end her relationship with the rugby player after deciding that he had become "too full-on". She was also worried by a tabloid report claiming that he had cheated on a previous girlfriend.

A friend told The People: "Dave thought she was his first true love, telling everyone she was 'the one' and he wanted to marry her but she just went cool on him. He's devastated and is desperately hoping to win her back.

"Dave's been unrecognisable since his split with Sammy. He's telling close friends he hopes she'll take him back and will do anything for her. But Sammy's young, successful, beautiful - and a tough lady. She's not one to lead a fella on if the relationship isn't right."
