Trial of ex-'Emmerdale' star collapses

'Emmerdale'

The trial of a former Emmerdale star accused of grievous bodily harm has been aborted on its fourth day.

Cleveland Campbell, who played Danny Daggert, was accused of punching a fellow guest, Daniel Stables, outside a party.

He allegedly started punching the victim outside the Village Inn and Hotel in Bury, Greater Manchester, on November 27, 2005.

It was the 21st birthday party of Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson - then Campbell's girlfriend.

The trial was aborted during its fourth day at Bolton Crown Court. Judge William Morris told the jury it would be discharged because "new material" had come to light that needed to be considered.

No decision had been made on whether Campbell would face a retrial.
