'X Factor' USA Steve Jones denies Nicole Scherzinger romance

The X Factor USA host Steve Jones has denied that he and Nicole Scherzinger are dating.

The pair have been rumoured to be "inseparable" following Scherzinger's recent split from long-time boyfriend and racing driver Lewis Hamilton.

Jones set the record straight on reports of a romance during an interview on Access Hollywood Live, insisting that he and Scherzinger's relationship is strictly platonic.

"I'm a friend, I'm there if she needs me," he said. "No, I'm not helping her through it… I am single."

Jones also told X Factor fans to expect surprises when the live shows resume tonight (Wednesday).

"It's so liquid, the show changes… we just don't know what's going to happen. It's nuts, it just changes all the time," he said.

Tonight's edition of The X Factor will see the Top 12 take the stage to compete for America's votes.

Earlier this week, an X Factor insider claimed that Simon Cowell is concerned for the safety of his female contestants Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow and Drew Ryniewicz.

The X Factor airs tonight (Wednesday) at 8/7c on Fox.
