Alex Reid has demanded an apology from The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex for saying that his fiancée Chantelle Houghton "used to get about a bit".

Essex made the comment in an interview with Fabulous promoting the fourth series of TOWIE, which begins on ITV2 today.

He was asked who out of Houghton, Stacey Solomon and Denise van Outen he would "snog, marry or avoid" and snubbed the Celebrity Big Brother winner, perceiving her as promiscuous.

Reid has since come to Houghton's defence on Twitter, writing to Essex: "thought we were friendly, guess not after ur salacious defamatory comment bout @chantellehought. I expect an apology. (sic)"

When a follower denounced his complaint, accusing him of selling stories about ex-wife Katie Price, Reid cryptically replied: "disappear an stop following me freak. Truth will be out in end."

Reid proposed to Houghton on live TV back in October. The couple announced the following month that they are expecting a baby.

Reid separated from Price last January after 11 months of marriage.
