Mecklenburgh declared that the glamour model, who left TOWIE after its second series in early 2011, is "starting to get on all of our nerves" by regularly commenting on the show and calling for certain cast members to be axed.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the launch of her new jewellery range yesterday (October 24), Childs insisted that she "wasn't a d**k" about Mecklenburgh and couldn't help that she took her comments "very seriously".
"I'm not a bitchy person, I'm not into that," she said. "At the end of the day I gave my opinion and they didn't like it.
"All I just said was [TOWIE] got a little bit bitchy, there's young girls watching this show. And I said Mario Falcone and Lucy need to up their game a little bit.
"I wasn't a d**k, [I was] actually giving them advice. They took it very seriously and tried to bitch and say not nice stuff about me, but in the end I laughed about it because I'm quite a strong person."
Childs added: "I think TOWIE's got a lot better this series, you've got the fun element back in. I still love the show, I've never slagged the show off."
The ex-Celebrity Big Brother contestant went on to claim that she is still keeping busy, despite not having much presence on TV in recent times.
"I love working, I work seven days a week," she said. "I'm passionate about what I do. People think, 'Oh what's Amy doing now, she's not on the TV'.
"Well, I'm at my boutique all the time, I'm emailing about my dresses, designing my spring/summer collection - sometimes I'm working until 1.30 in the morning. I love being busy."
Childs also spoke to DS about her love for X Factor contestant Rylan Clark at the London launch show.
