Blake Shelton has joked that being a good husband means being a "pushover" for wife Miranda Lambert at times.

The Voice coach explained that he's learned one of the keys to marriage is knowing when to compromise.

"I think you've got to be confident and a little bit of a pushover. Obviously, you've got to be a loyal person. I'm never going to listen to someone trash my wife," Shelton told Redbook.

"I think you have to be willing to take a bullet for somebody if you're going to stand up there, take your vows, and be married to them for the rest of your life."

His wife Lambert previously admitted that Shelton has calmed down considerably since tying the knot last May.

Lambert also commented that she and Shelton haven't had much time to experience marriage.

Shelton joins Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green for the second season of The Voice, premiering after the Super Bowl on February 5 on NBC.

Shelton was recently forced to cancel a series of tour dates following the death of his father Dick Shelton.
