Reid and Bowers, who have both been linked to the new series of Celebrity Big Brother, were allegedly involved in a fight at Katie Price's New Year's Eve party.
According to the News of the World, Reid told a friend that he hit Bowers because the former Another Level star had drunkenly threatened to kill him.
"I'm trying to play it down," Reid reportedly said. "My elbow has hit him three times in the head. I worked his knees, too. I never get in fights, ever. I was like, 'Come on, please, let's go' and he was lairing it up. He took my kindness as a weakness."
Reid claimed that Bowers had been causing trouble with other partygoers and added: "He provoked me. I had him with my other hand and kept elbowing him. He's lucky he's not dead. I'd had a few drinks."
Meanwhile, The Mirror reports that the fight began when Bowers criticised Price for allowing her children to stay up late. He then reportedly called Reid a "ponce" and tried to hit him.
"I am really p***ed off at what happened," Bowers allegedly said. "I can't believe Alex reacted how he did. It was really severe and whatever happened or whatever was said I didn't deserve this.
"I won't be going to the police because it's not my style. But if people ask me about it on Big Brother, I will tell them the truth."
Celebrity Big Brother starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
