Barrymore mistaken for 'bearded vagrant'

Michael Barrymore has revealed that he was nearly arrested earlier this week because police thought he looked like a tramp.

The Celebrity Big Brother 4 star, who has recently grown a grey beard, was visiting theatre owner Bill Kenwright earlier this week when he was mistaken for a "bearded vagrant".

Barrymore told This Morning: "I was on my way home when Bill Kenwright phoned me and invited me round. He was on a high and said I should come round for eggs on toast.

"So I go through the gate and then a little while later, the buzzer goes. Bill said: 'Who is that, at this hour?'

"So he answers the door and it's two policemen. They asked if everything was alright because they spotted a bearded vagrant trying to get in to the house.

"I had to come downstairs to prove it was me, Michael Barrymore."

The former Strike It Lucky host added: "It was nice for once not to be arrested."
