'Voice' UK's Jessie J: 'I'm the total opposite of a diva'

By
Jessie J has denied claims that she is a "diva", insisting that she has "grown up" since turning 25.

The 'Price Tag' singer said that she actually has a relatively small entourage, and that women often get accused of being high-maintenance.

"I don't think there has been any TV show where a woman hasn't had a diva stamp," she told The Mirror.

"I don't want anyone to think that's what I am because I'm not. I'm the total opposite.

"I have eight people in my team, not 50. You can't win. I realise that happens to women.

"But do I want to turn on TV and see someone else in my chair? No! That's the only diva in me."

Jessie J - who recently shaved her head for Comic Relief - also spoke of reducing her flamboyant image and acting more maturely.

"I'm more of a woman now," she said. "I'm having fun and still want to have fun. But it doesn't mean I have to wear a leotard now.

"I did that cartoony, crazy, dark-haired bob look and I loved it. But I have less make-up now.

"I feel like I've grown up. I was 17 when I got signed, 22 for my first single and now I'm 25. My album feels more mature."

Speaking about her role as mentor on The Voice UK alongside Danny O'Donoghue, will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones, she added that she is the most caring on the panel.

"People always say to me, 'You are such a wise mum'. It's really nice. Among the four of us I am the most caring and emotional. I'm also more comfortable on the show now and no longer afraid.

"Taking the role of coach is a scary thing but this year Danny and I have had loads of banter."

The Voice UK continues on Saturday (April 6) at 7pm on BBC One.
