'New Girl' Zooey Deschanel: 'I make no apologies for being girly'

Zooey Deschanel has vowed to never make apologies for being girly.
The New Girl actress said she opposes the notion that femininity is comparable to "weakness".
"If you feel like dressing like a girl, there's nothing wrong with that," she told Allure. "I don't know why femininity should be associated with weakness.
"Women should be free to express who they are without thinking, 'I need to act like a man, or I need to tone it down to be successful'. That's a very good way to keep women down."
Deschanel went on to say that she also doesn't allow herself to get carried away with dieting.
"Some people around me, they're like 89 pounds. I'm not going to say I'm a big girl. I'm a very small person, but I'm a healthy weight," she said, adding: "That might be a little weird for Hollywood."
The actress recently revealed that she is very involved in picking out her New Girl character Jess's outfits.
Deschanel is to guest host the February 11 episode of Saturday Night Live. She will be joined by musical guests Karmin.
New Girl airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Fox.
