The 32-year-old actress, who plays Tanya Branning on the BBC One soap, is currently expecting twins with her husband Neil Madden, 31. She announced her happy news in July.
In a new interview, Joyner has revealed that she struggled to conceive for four years before trying IVF. She went on to fall pregnant after just one cycle of the treatment.
"You go for fertility tests and we found out it was unlikely we'd have children naturally so we went for it," she told OK magazine.
"We're quite young and there was still a chance we could conceive, so we decided to give it three tries and if it didn't work out, we'd reassess and look into adoption.
"We're very lucky. It's a miracle really. That's why we're not secretive about it."
The soap star admitted that she went through a "rollercoaster" of emotions after making the decision to try IVF.
She added: "It's bearable physically - you have to inject yourself, which is obviously nothing like making love, which is what everyone else gets to do to make babies."
Joyner has played Walford's Tanya since 2006.
