Former EastEnders star Jessie Wallace has admitted that she is keen to secure more stage roles over the coming years.

The actress, who is best known for playing Walford's Kat Slater, has been appearing in a touring production of the musical Stepping Out in recent weeks.

Discussing the experience in an interview with EDP 24, Wallace explained: "It's a clever piece of comedy. Hopefully this will lead to other stuff. I'm comfortable doing comedy. It's come together really nicely. It's a feel-good show."

Asked which part she would like to play next, the 38-year-old replied: "Nancy in Oliver. I love everything about her. What's not to like? She's a great, great character and the music is fantastic."

Wallace also reiterated her insistence that she will not be back in Albert Square anytime soon.

She said: "Someone asks me if I'm going to go back every day. But I'm loving doing other stuff at the moment."

The star claimed that she "could have done better" in EastEnders earlier this year.
