The actor, best known for playing Walford's Mark Fowler for 13 years, is currently appearing as servant Patsy in a touring production of Monty Python comedy Spamalot.
Speaking to the Surrey Herald about his new role, Carty explained: "I love being on tour and I love doing a show like this. I can get up anywhere in the country and it can be a rainy day but I know I'm going to get up on stage and mess about with my chums. What more could I want from a job?"
He continued: "Any actor worth his salt will tell you that being on stage is the ultimate. You get that immediate response from the audience and it is magical.
"But for me it is more than that. Because I don't speak too much during the show, I'm watching it as much as the audience. I'm seeing how the actors react and enjoying it as much as the crowd does."
Carty recently revealed that he would be willing to appear in ITV soap Coronation Street in the future.
