Danniella Westbrook has said that finding God after moving to Los Angeles has changed her life.

The former EastEnders actress, who battled drug addiction, previously revealed that she had turned to religion after moving to America with her husband Kevin and their children Kai and Jody last year.

Speaking to ITV's Lorraine, Westbrook described how she had turned her life around with the help of her pastor, former drug addict Jay Haizlip.

"It really has changed my life, I mean nobody in my life had ever told me about Jesus, ever. I've never picked up a bible, I've never owned a bible. I've always believed in God, but no-one had ever spoken to me about Jesus before," she said. "And with my past and my addiction, I thought if anybody's well past saving, that person is definitely me. And I was completely wrong."

The 37-year-old continued: "I've only ever been to churches in England for weddings and funerals, so I didn't know what to expect at all. And my son goes to the youth group there, and my daughter goes to the Kids Ministry there, and my husband and I go to Church Thursdays and Sundays.

"We really enjoy it, it's a huge part of our lives. It's just changed the way we think, the way we treat people. We try and live our life on a daily basis and I'm so thankful to it."

Responding to criticism from her former mother-in-law, who claimed that Westbrook's new life had seen her grandson brainwashed, the actress said the comments were made by someone "who [hasn't] been in my son's life for years through their own admission".

She explained: "Kai had an argument with his father like three years ago and they don't speak. My son will be 15 in November and has never received a birthday card or anything from them. You know, he's my son and that's his relationship with his father and it's nothing to do with me. And he's happy with where he is in life and no-one forces him to go to church - he wants to go to church."

Speaking about her new life running a dog grooming salon in Los Angeles, Westbrook said that she had not ruled out a return to acting.

"I learnt how to groom dogs and wanted to work with animals. I have a doggy day care and a boarding place that I work," she said. "I do that - I have a little business doing that and I am really happy but I am going to start working out here I think."
