Larry Hagman's career: 'Dallas,' 'I Dream Of Jeannie' - video

By
Following the sad news of Larry Hagman's death, Digital Spy looks back at five of the actor's career highlights in video.

Coming after a successful theatre career and stint in the Air Force, Hagman took on his first recurring TV role as a lawyer on daytime soap The Edge of Night from 1961 to 1963.

He went on to star in I Dream of Jeannie, becoming a household name for his role as astronaut Captain Tony Nelson from 1965 to 1970.

Eight years later, Hagman landed the role that would catapult him to superstar status - playing scheming oil baron JR Ewing in Dallas. The show was a huge success, and its season three cliffhanger went down as one of the greatest finales in TV history, leaving millions of viewers wondering Who Shot JR?

Later on in his career, Hagman had cameos on various TV shows, most memorably playing Lynette's mum Stella Wingfield's grumpy husband on Desperate Housewives.

Earlier this year, TNT revived Dallas. A new generation of Ewings were brought on board, but fans still tuned in to see JR and Bobby (Patrick Duffy) reignite their famous feud.
