Catching up with the permanently swimsuit-clad bronze medalist during training for Splash!, Digital Spy's showbiz columnist Anna Williamson chatted to the 18-year-old about a rumoured second series, his celebrity love interests and how it feels to be named DS's sexiest man...
How are you coping with the initial Splash criticism?
"There's always going to be divided opinion on new shows, and there's always going to be criticism, but I'm really happy about the fact that people are clearly enjoying it.
"The viewing figures are high. It's exciting to have diving on primetime TV, and not just diving, there's been synchronised swimming on it too which is just great for the profile of British swimming."
If Splash was granted a second series, who would be your dream contestant?
"I've always wanted to teach Cheryl Cole how to dive. She's said she wants to learn how to dive, but obviously didn't want to be involved in Splash!... well actually I don't know if she was even asked.
"We spoke briefly on Twitter and she said she wants me to teach her how to dive so maybe that could happen. Who knows? That would be very cool."
What other sports do you think would work in a Splash! format?
"I think trampolining might be quite funny, or gymnastics. I don't think it'd be very entertaining to watch people just race against each other unless they did lots of different sports and mixed them into a big show.
"I think diving has the fear factor in it which is a big part of the show. I dunno, maybe a higher diving show... extreme diving."
Digital Spy actually offered some suggestions for new Olympic spinoff shows. Do you think any of them could work?
"[Laughs]. They won't be as good as diving."
So, come on, what's going on with TOWIE's Lauren Pope. You were seen holding hands...
"Ha ha, that's quite funny actually. Basically [it was] nothing at all. It was just one of those stupid pap photos that speculated things, but there's definitely nothing happening at all."

Do you ever get tired or embarrassed about being constantly in trunks?
"I guess I'm used to it, I've been doing it for 11 years now, so I don't really think about it. I spend most of my time half-naked.
"It's a little bit weird, but I'm quite comfortable and can get changed anywhere."
"Sometimes I'll be in a car park and then all of a sudden just get changed. People are like, 'Why are you half-naked in the car park?'
"But well, people have seen me in a lot less clothes than this. I guess sometimes divers and swimmers get too comfortable being half-naked because we spend a lot of our time like that."
Do you know that you have a good body?
"I know that I work hard at staying in shape so it comes with the job I guess."
What do you have to say to Digital Spy readers for voting you 'sexiest male' in our 2012 end of year poll?
"Wow. I don't know what to say about that actually - that's pretty cool, I didn't know about it till now!
"I don't really think about it like that though, I just dive because I dive. But that is a cool title to have. Thank you."
Would you ever do a proper nude shoot?
"Ooh, I don't see why not! It would be quite a different and interesting thing to do, so I don't see why not.
"I probably wouldn't be allowed to do it, but who knows? You'll have to wait and see!"
