Suranne Jones hopes for West End success

Former Coronation Street star Suranne Jones is holding out for a role in the West End.

The actress, who played Karen McDonald on the ITV1 soap, is refusing to play well-known characters on the stage because she is waiting to show off her talents in a brand new part.

"I don't want to replace actors in a particular role," Suranne told The Stage. "If I take on a part I want it to be new."

Jones added that she has no plans to return to Weatherfield in the near future, but added: "I thank God Karen isn't dead - just in case."

Suranne will soon return to screens on new ITV1 medical drama Harley Street, which premieres on July 17.
