Corrie star Betty's younger sister dies

Veteran Coronation Street actress Betty Driver has been left heartbroken by the death of her younger sister Freda.

Driver, 88, who plays barmaid Betty Williams, has been absent from the soap for six months to take care of her sibling.

Betty and Freda lived together near Manchester with dogs Totti and Polly and cat Abbey.

A show source told The Mirror: "Everyone is terribly sad at the news. We send Betty sincere condolences and heartfelt best wishes.

"They have been trying times for Betty as she and Freda were inseparable. Betty will be heartbroken at losing Freda.

"She will be welcomed back when she returns because it is fair to say she is one of the loveliest and most popular cast members."
