Alison King: 'I cried to Corrie co-star'

Alison King has revealed that she sought comfort from her Coronation Street co-star Julia Haworth as she dealt with the stress of becoming a new mum.

The 36-year-old actress, who plays bitchy Carla Gordon on the Weatherfield drama, welcomed the arrival of baby girl Daisy Mae with her sound technician partner Adam Huckett in February.

Haworth, better known as Claire Peacock on the soap, had given birth to her own first child Sophia in July 2008.

Speaking to We Love Telly, King explained: "My hormones went crazy at first and I couldn't control it. I cried down the phone to Julia Haworth for hours. She was sweet."

On juggling work with motherhood, she said: "You can't envisage ever being able to get up to feed her in the night and learn lines. I love both, but I'm still a bit shell-shocked at being back."

The star added that becoming a mother was the "proudest moment" of her life and "the most amazing thing ever".
