Dawn has split with real hubbie twice

Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn has admitted that her real life marriage has been much more up and down than her on-screen relationship between Jack and Vera.

The soap star has been married to electrician Don Ibbotson for 42 years, but during that time they have had a number of bust-ups and even split up twice amid an affair.

She has also revealed that unlike her character Vera, it is her husband that wears the trousers when she is at home.

Dawn said: "He would never have put up with me treating him like Vera treats Jack — would he ’eck! It’s been a partnership with ups and downs and I’ve been happy for him to take the lead, even if it has led to rows.”

The Street star has decided to quit the show after 33 years and has been struggling with the killer lung disease emphysema.
