Gregson: 'My son's birth scared me'

Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has admitted that he was too "scared" to watch his first son enter the world.

The 35-year-old actor and his partner Emma Gleave welcomed the arrival of baby boy Alfie in August 2007. In July this year, the pair became parents for the second time when another son named Harry was born.

"When Alfie was born I saw his head, but I didn't watch the full birth because I was a bit scared," Gregson told Bang Showbiz.

"But with Harry, I watched the whole thing. It was very special - you're watching a life arriving. I was at the business end and I saw everything. It's lovely, but quite scary at the same time. I'd recommend it. But if you're squeamish, don't."

The Weatherfield star added that Alfie's birth was greeted by music after he decided it would be a nice touch.

He said: "When Alfie was born the only thing I had on my iPod was The Pogues, so Alfie was born to 'Fairytale Of New York'."

Gregson recently revealed that he would like his Corrie character Steve McDonald to become a father again.
