The Glee star said that she feels it's important to speak out for stray dogs and cats as they are often mistreated and neglected.
"I'm a really big animal lover," she told People.
"My mother always said, 'Stand for something, or [you'll] fall for everything'. I feel like [animals] don't have a voice."
She also recalled rescuing a dog and a litter of kittens while on the Glee set.
"[The kittens] probably would have been eaten, so I rescued them," she said.
"I made the people at Glee send the dog to the vet, and we had him cleaned up."
