What a load of crap.. Hugh Laurie took a job he didn't think he'd get.. but good luck to him and his HOUSE! House MD is one of the best things on TV.. I'm glad he's making more cos I love them.. I have all the box sets and I watch the repeats on TV.. Good job, Hugh.. continue making us proud in the US!!

That's absolutely rubbish! I adore Hugh - he's one my favourite actors in the world! He's so funny and has perfect comedic timing - think A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Blackadder - but also has the awesomeness to carry off a BRILLIANT American accent and say all of those medical words and STILL make a great character. I know you're a life long pessimist, Hugh, but remember: WE ALL LOVE YOU!!

Sold out? That's nonsense, he has simply gone to where he has advanced his career, who wouldn't? Sounds like envy to me, I for one am glad he made the move or I wouldn't be watching House every week.

The British are notorious for having a film/tv tall poppy syndrome. Once you've crossed the pond, it's like you've become a traitor. As a British actor, you can't show ambition.

Of course he hasn't. The likes of the BBC & ITV obviously don't appreciate him, whereas Fox think (as we all know) he's a god. Which of course he is!! And mighty cute, I may add :)

I suppose this is Hugh's way of justifying leaving the UK. I agree with Dave from Sedgewick, Brits that do well in the US seem to enjoy the adoration and pampering over there which they probably wouldn't get over here. I hope he doesn't leave for good as he is a good actor and I'm sure if 'House' finished he would be offered work over here.

Hugh Laurie has not sold out. His work in Britain helped pave the way for modern comedy, in my opinion. Just because he's working in the US, it doesn't mean that he's sold out in the UK.

He's not free for most of the year. He also will be perceived to be now too expensive for most UK projects. I also wonder how many offers to his agent he doesn't even hear about. It is common for an agent to dismiss, out of hand, enquiries they deem to be beneath their client - or where their percentage of their client's fee would be too small - especially if there is a more lucrative US gig in the offing.

I very much have to disagree with Lee from Lancs. Hugh can do comedy, period films, drama, even rom-com. I have always felt that he was under-utilised in Britain. How about his all too brief turn in Spooks - just wonderful!

British producers probably don't realise he is available! If they found he was, could they compete in the financial stakes? He needs to remember he is "out of sight, off the circuit and out of mind" when it comes to casting. There is plenty of excellent British talent for British productions readily available without complications and binding ties to American contracts.

Could we ever take him away from House??? We all love the show and it wouldn't be as successful without Hugh!!! I hope this isn't his way of leaving House??? Should he really be looking back? What does the UK have to offer compared to the US? They have much bigger TV shows than anywhere in the world!

I'm confused as to why Hugh thinks the door has slammed on him. Why would he be offered work in the UK with a shooting schedule like the one he has with House? It makes sense that people wouldn't offer him work if he's contracted longterm to another show where he is on screen most of the time. Maybe he's looking for a reason to bail on House? I wouldn't blame him. The quality of the show has been on a downward spiral since the second season, and it's becoming increasingly obvious that he and Robert Sean Leonard are the only things holding it together. He hasn't sold out, but it looks like he wants out!

As much as I love Hugh Laurie, it sounds like the problem's in his head rather than anywhere else. This is a common syndrome amongst British actors who make it big in the USA. They get used to being pampered and fawned over and expect the same treatment at home. Get over it, Hugh.

This reminds me of when Prince Edward said that the US rewards achievement whilst the Brits don't. Complete nonsense. Hugh is an average actor who's been given a very good script and a part that fits him. Blackadder was fantastic but it was the same then. The Fry and Laurie material was very hit and miss. Count your blessings, mate.

I work in TV drama. Prior to House, UK broadcasters were adamant that Laurie was a lightweight supporting player and not a star name. The last job they offered him was as a dimwitted Doctor Watson to Stephen Fry's Holmes. Now that he's proven them resoundingly wrong, they assume they can't afford him.

Hugh deserves his success in America. He's a brilliant actor and comedian - I loved Jeeves and Wooster! The British producers are fools not to make use of him. I watch any of his shows/films when they're repeated on Satellite TV.

There is no way that Hugh has sold out. He was just a big fish in a small pond. If anything, they should be proud that one of their own was able to make it big in the US. I for one am happy that Hugh is in House, I wouldn't have it any other way. I've seen him in previous British works and they were funny and show how much of an actor he is. It's sad that he feels that way, but even sadder if his own country doesn't acknowledge his talent.

I am deeply saddened to hear that Hugh feels this way. The man is a major talent and I have followed his career since I first saw him on stage 25 years ago. Anybody who has seen his film work knows how versatile he is. He is a far superior actor to many of those earning huge fees for playing themselves over and over again in every film. Good luck to Hugh.

What a load of idiots! HOW can British producers afford NOT to employ Hugh Laurie?! He's one of the best actors of his generation. Who cares where he works, he's one of our own and we should be proud! We haven't shut Simon Cowell out, or Anna Friel, or Michelle Ryan... the list goes on... He's an absolute comedy genius and he should be given the opportunity to work in his own country!
