Laurie: 'Britain slammed the door on me'

Hugh Laurie has claimed that the UK "slammed" the door on him after he landed a role in US medical drama House.

The actor has earned a Golden Globe and several Emmy nominations for his portrayal of maverick doctor Gregory House in the hit Fox show.

But he told the Radio Times: "There's a notion that I've sold out. Sold out what? There's a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn't be successful, and reneged on it."

He insisted that he had not been offered any work in the UK during his four years on the series, saying: "The door slammed behind me, and that's it."

Laurie appeared on British shows including Blackadder, Jeeves And Wooster and A Bit of Fry and Laurie before making the move to the US.
