The True Blood star told BlackBook that he is offered roles exactly like his HBO vampire and finds it hard to break into different types of projects.
"In most of the projects I'm recognised for, I've played leaders. And so, of course, that's how people want to pigeonhole me," he explained.
"You'd be shocked by the number of offers I get to play Eric Northman under a different name."
Skarsgård, who recently joined the cast of the upcoming Viking film The Vanguard, also revealed his fears about becoming over-exposed as a celebrity.
"I so desperately try to keep my private life out of the tabloids because becoming a celebrity rather than an actor can really get in the way of a good performance," he said.
Skarsgård recently split from long-time girlfriend Kate Bosworth, with whom he stars in the upcoming remake of Straw Dogs.
