In an interview with Teen Vogue, Dobrev revealed that she developed lofty goals from a very early age.
"I wanted to be the jock, and I wanted to be a dancer and actress," she said. "I was also a gymnast and very academically driven."
The Vampire Diaries actress went on to say that focusing on a variety of extracurricular activities could often be challenging.
"I always had a lot on my plate and was really overwhelmed," she said. "Not much has changed - I'm constantly trying to one-up myself and raising the stakes… Ha! No pun intended."
The star immigrated with her family from Bulgaria to Canada as a toddler and she secured her first major acting role as pregnant teen mother Mia Jones on Degrassi: The Next Generation at age 17.
The Vampire Diaries returns with new episode 'Know Thy Enemy' on April 7 at 8pm ET/7pm CT on The CW.
