'Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder never proposed to Nina Dobrev

A spokesperson for Nina Dobrev has denied reports that she recently turned down a marriage proposal from Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder.

Rumours surfaced online this week claiming that Somerhalder had asked Dobrev to tie the knot, but her refusal had caused "friction" in their relationship.

However, Dobrev's publicist dismissed the story, telling US Weekly: "There is no truth to this item at all. There was no proposal."

However a source assured the publication that the couple's relationship is better than ever, saying: "They're a very happy couple and they're doing great."

Somerhalder and Dobrev confirmed their romance in September 2011, with Somerhalder revealing that he was attracted to the actress because she "enjoys life".

Dobrev, who won a People's Choice Award this evening (January 11), recently insisted that she would never do reality TV as she values her private life too much.
