The actress, who debuted her new look at the BAFTAs last night, explained that she had been impressed by Sophie Sumner, who won the 'British Invasion' cycle of ANTM.

Speaking to reporters including The Daily Telegraph on the red carpet, Mirren said: "I just thought it would be fun, you know.
"Honestly, I was watching America's Next Top Model. Did you watch the season where they had the British girls and the American girls? Well, you remember the British girl who won? She had pink hair and I thought, 'Ooh, that looks really pretty'. So I'm copying her, basically."

Mirren - who lost out to Emmanuelle Riva in the 'Best Leading Actress' category at the BAFTAs - had also revealed that she did not expect to win.
"I'll celebrate anyway," she joked.
