The reality star, who was recently ejected from Big Brother for violent behaviour, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) in the early hours of yesterday morning, TMZ says.
The original reports also suggested that Hantz, who was released from custody yesterday afternoon, began to run from the police officers but was detained after a "very short pursuit".
However, Hantz has now taken to his Twitter page to explain that he did not resist arrest in any way during the incident in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana.
"For the record I was arrested for OWI," he wrote. "I wasn't driving. I was sitting in the drivers seat with the car running. I know stupid."
He continued: "Also I didn't run from anyone. I was just moving my car like the cops asked me to. Then they came up and arrested me. If I would have ran then I would have been resisting arrest. I don't know where that came from."
Hantz also retweeted a photograph of himself outside the bail bonds office and later told a follower: "I mean all I can do is laugh it off. Learn from it. Maybe."
Hantz's nephew Brandon Hantz recently defended his relative's behaviour on Big Brother, saying: "He's my uncle and I'm gonna go bat for him."
