Doctor Who star Karen Gillan appears to have revealed that she has split from her longterm boyfriend.

The actress, who plays Amy Pond in the BBC sci-fi, talked about her partner of six years Patrick Green in the past tense when promoting her new TV drama We'll Take Manhattan.

The project sees Gillan portray '60s supermodel Jean Shrimpton, who strikes up a love affair with photographer David Bailey.

Asked if she and Green - also a photographer - had worked together in a similar way, Gillan told the Radio Times: "We never really did any of that. It's quite healthy to keep certain things separate in a relationship, I think."

Gillan had been living together in London before their alleged split. The Sun claims that they ran into relationship troubles after her recent film shoot in New York.

The news follows reports that the 24-year-old's Doctor Who co-star Matt Smith is hoping to reunite with girlfriend Daisy Lowe. The couple separated back in November.

Gillan is to leave Doctor Who this year along with her on-screen husband Arthur Darvill.
