'Project Runway' Michael Kors gives $1 million for Sandy relief

Project Runway judge Michael Kors has donated $1 million (£631,000) to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

The designer is giving the large donation on behalf of his company to the American Red Cross in order to continue funding their operations on the ground in the East Coast.

"We are a company based in New York, inspired every day by the energy and beauty of our great city," Kors said in a press release.

He concluded: "The tragedy that Hurricane Sandy has left behind may seem insurmountable, but together, we can all pitch in and help those in need."

Kors is a native New Yorker, having been raised in Merrick in Nassau County.

He is one of many celebrities who have contributed to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in the last two weeks.

Jerry Seinfeld and Louis CK are both fronting stand-up comedy benefits in New York City to raise money for local charities in the next few weeks. Gwyneth Paltrow is additionally auctioning a dinner with herself and The Chew host Mario Batali on behalf of Fashion for Sandy Relief .

Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West, The Who, Paul McCartney and Alicia Keys will also be headlining The Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden on December 12.

The View co-host Sherri Shepherd and Susan Sarandon organised benefits late last week as well.
