Laurita told People that doctors diagnosed Nicholas when his motor skills regressed and he retreated from contact with others.
The reality star acknowledged that she was relieved to finally have a solid diagnosis, but said she is still concerned for his future.
"I worry about him being independent when he's older. I spend all my time researching what we can do for him," Laurita explained.
Jacqueline's husband Chris Laurita added that it's hurtful to know his "child isn't perfectly healthy".
"We didn't want to believe it was true," he admitted.
The couple's trouble with oldest daughter Ashlee has been documented on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Ashlee was sued for pulling Danielle Staub's hair on camera and was ultimately sent away from her mother's home.
Laurita has also feuded with former friend Teresa Giudice, who she accused of saying "things behind [her] back that really upset" her.
