The newly-wed star of The Hills is said to be vying for a $500,000 deal for the issue.
An insider told Life & Style: "[Montag] wants to do it. It's just a matter of working out the details."
Sources told PerezHilton.com that any photographs would be risqué but not topless or fully nude.
"Heidi won't be required to get naked for Playboy," they said.
MTV recently confirmed that Montag and her husband Spencer Pratt would return to The Hills in its next series, while Lauren Conrad would not.
