The Hills star Spencer Pratt reportedly considered having a vasectomy before he realised the permanence of the procedure.
A clip from tonight's episode of the MTV series, posted by Us magazine, shows Pratt informing wife Heidi Montag of his plan.
"I was going to the doctor because I had heard that you can do a seven-minute procedure that can make it so I can't have babies," he says.
"I thought it was reversible but once I found out it wasn't I left the office."
Montag replies: "You would have gone and done it right then if you thought it was reversible? And then you would have come home and told me... I never lie to you!"
The couple, who married in April, have previously clashed over Montag's desire to start a family and Pratt's reluctance.
The full episode airs on MTV tonight.
