The Hills star checked into an LA hospital in November for a string of surgeries including breast enlargement, chin reduction and a mini-brow lift.
During an interview with Good Morning America, the 23-year-old dismissed critics' claims that she is "addicted" to surgery.
"I would say that none of those people know me at all and that's just a judgment. I'm not addicted," she explained.
"If you're addicted to something, you have to do it all the time, not once every couple years, if even."
When asked about the effect of her surgery on younger fans, she replied: "My main message is that beauty is really within... I'm also in a different industry than they are. You know, I'm in a limelight and I have to do things that are going to make me happy at the end of the day."
She added: "I'm living in my skin and I look in the mirror and it's my career, my life and you only have one so I want to take advantage of everything and be the best me in and out every way."
Montag's co-star Lo Bosworth reportedly recently said that she hoped young fans would not be influenced by the surgery, while Emmy Rossum revealed that she was "upset" to see stars "advocating plastic surgery".
