The reality TV star complained during an interview with E!'s Giuliana Rancic that her friends – who included Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag and Stephanie Pratt – were offered $10,000 (£6,716) Birkin bags to fabricate stories about a narcotics problem.
After claiming that the network was unaware of the producer's alleged attempts to influence the show's content, Cavallari said: "I felt so used and I realised at that moment that I didn't matter. None of us mattered. It was all about ratings."
Cavallari also admitted that she felt she was living a double life on The Hills, saying: "I had two lives. I had the public Kristin and then I had the real me."
The 26-year-old star is a mother to 7-month-old son Camden with fiancé Jay Cutler.
Cavallari said that she first became aware of the hang-up attached to being a reality star as a teenager when she, Lauren Conrad and other classmates were hand-picked to star in Laguna Beach.
She recalled: "I was 16 when they first came. We were babies and we didn't know what we were signing up for. They literally came in and just manipulated situations."
