Original Survivor winner Richard Hatch has been arrested at his sister's home in Rhode Island, reports MSNBC.

The 48-year-old was taken into custody yesterday afternoon at the property where he had been living under house arrest following nearly four years in prison on charges of tax evasion.

He was later transferred to the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office in Bourne, Massachusetts. Authorities have yet to explain the reason for his arrest.

"We just don't have the same kind of details on the federal inmates we book as we do with the regular city and county inmates," said Sheriff's Office spokesperson Roy Lyons.

"It's got to be that he violated some kind of condition. There's no other reason this would have happened."

Hatch was arrested just hours after appearing on the Today show to deny the allegations of tax evasion. He insisted that CBS had promised to pay the necessary taxes on his $1 million Survivor prize money.

He had been scheduled for release from house arrest on October 7.
